The public website of DASI [] gives open access to the entire amount of data entered through the Data Entry.
Each card includes all the information regarding a specific item in the archive. There are three kinds of card describing the epigraphs, the objects and the sites. The cards for a given category will include information specific to that category, but all of the catalogue cards are formatted in a similar manner.
Every card is characterized by: a field for the title (the concordances will also be listed for inscriptions and objects); an image gallery (the images of individual monuments pertaining to each site will also be provided); sections containing information and notes regarding the item itself; sections with basic data relating to the record linked to the card that is being consulted; a section for the pertinent bibliography.
A fundamental improvement of the Epigraph card, which is the core of the project, is the transcription of the inscriptions in the Unicode standard and their markup in the Epidoc xml standard. Each Epigraph card provide links to the related Object and Site cards, which in turn display detailed information on the support and the provenance of the inscriptions.
Since DASI team is cataloguing museum collections worldwide, also a number of anepigraphic objects have been recorded. They are now accessible from the Objects index and, in a short time, will be gathered in specific Collections.
Users are invited to visit the Help and Editorial criteria pages in order to get an overview of the DASI content design, the editorial criteria followed in cataloguing and some instructions on the use of indices and tools.
DASI public website provides users with improved linguistic tools intended for advanced search.
The Textual search allow to perform dynamic searches on words or patterns of words within the texts of the inscriptions. Searches can be refined using one or more filters that will be applied to the meta-information encoded in the text of the inscriptions or relative to the description of different features of the epigraphs.
The Word lists allows to retrieve the list of the words occurring in the inscriptions of the archive. Two separate lists are provided: the General word list and Lacunae at beginning, a list of all the words that begin with a lacuna.
Contents can be browsed from the Indices of the Corpora, the Epigraphs, the Objects and the Bibliography. Searches can be further refined by using filters.
A Google map tool displays the location of the sites, whose coordinates have been recorded in the archive, and gives access to the Epigraph and Object cards related to each Site.
DASI is a project in progress, which aims to constantly provide new content and features. Users will be soon enabled to register in order to benefit from extended fruition tools. The subscription of the DASI newsletter is already available by filling the registration form.
